I think about what would happen if my parents died...

Q.) I think about what would happen if my parents died every night and often during the day. Thinking about it so much, I almost wish it would happen and I crave the sympathy and attention I would get from teachers and church leaders and friends. I keep saying over and over to my self \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'my parents will not die this year\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' but it doesn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t work. How do I stop thinking about it? it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s driving me insane. I always harm myself if I feel like hurting others, even if I just want to verbally abuse someone. I have no compulsions though so know one knows I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m like this. It took me a year to get a diagnosis of aspergers syndrome so I don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t trust the psychiatrists any more. They never do what they say they will. I get counselling but I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m too scared to share this with him incase he thinks I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ll be a murderer, I can\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t tell anyone. How do I stop?

A.) I used to have similar thoughts, as a lot of people. The reason that it's not commonly heard of is because most people don't share these scary thoughts, thinking that they will be baker acted or something. I can tell you this though, the fact that you are worried about it means that you are normal! This took me a while to get, but once I got it, It was like a light bulb lit up above my head just like in the cartoons. You see, once you see that this is just a fear, you no longer have to be afraid of it anymore. Most people think that a fear they have is something wrong with them and that is why they are so afraid! Once you realize that this is just a fear, well, that's easy to forget now, because fears are just made up, and yes our brain messes with us, all of us, normal people alike, it's just how it works. We are made in such a way that things we don't want to think about stick in our minds. That's just how it works! So you no longer have to hurt yourself. You are a child of God and He loves you and you are fearfully and wonderfully made!

So take action: When you have this fear, remind yourself that it is just a fear and that the normal human brain has a tendency to make us think about that which we don't want to. You are normal.

Obsessive compulsive disorder help!

Q.) I am now 30 years old and ever since I was in grade 3, I have had a tendency to tense up the back of my neck and scalp and inner ears, and the area above the ears, tensing my diaphragm thus breathe very irregularly, every other 30 seconds when I\\\'m awake, i would say. I\\\'ve had to consciously remind myself to slow down, take a deep breathe and not think about doing that, but that would last for a few minutes before I start that annoying habit again. It has caused me severe tension headaches and stiff shoulders which no masseuse or doctor could relieve for more than a day. Please help. Thank you!

A.) I used to focus on my breathing and I would feel like I would pass out and this was very disturbing for me. What a doctor did tell me was that if I passed out, my body would take over my breathing for me because it is involuntary when we are not conscious. Knowing this helped me to not fear it as much, knowing my brain would do the right thing no matter how afraid I was. Another thing that I did was some serious diversion. How I did this was, I would lie down in a comfortable position and I would watch a movie and try to notice the details in the movie, or I would play chess. A really strong diversion is to do minus problems in your head that requires you to think, like 17-9 or 22-6 or even addition, 35+7 or 12+35. These things require your consciousness and you cannot fully focus on your feelings while focusing on these things. These things work quickly. Another thing that I did was embrace these feelings, reminding yourself that they are only sensations and you can say to yourself, bring it on. Notice the little tinglings or pains or pressures and think about how your body is just reacting to anxiety by creating these little sensations. They cannot hurt you, they are just interesting. I also did this, I would say to myself, I am strong, I am healthy, I am brave. I also said different things that would come to mind, always say something that is in the present, don't say, I will be strong, no say what you want to be in the present tense, like if you already are, say I am strong, say I am healthy completely. Take control over what you want in your life by speaking it into your life. Stop being a bully to yourself and stand up to yourself and tell yourself how it's going to be...

Mostly my OCD flares up at...

Stop the obsessive compulsive thoughts!

Q.) Mostly my OCD flares up at a time when I am having a wonderful happy event. Some thought is going to pop up that will \\\"ruin\\\" the happy occassion. My wedding, someone elses name popped into my head. This devasted me for years. It is someone that I don\\\'t even like. My husband mentions one day while looking at a picture of our daughter that she looks like an ex boyfriend of mine whom I have had no contact with since we broke up before I met my husband. He says it jokingly, but OCD now tells me in thoughts \\\"maybe he isn\\\'t her father...\\\" It upset me so much because it is NOT true what OCD is saying, it is NOT real. This thought went away for years then came back again while on a family vacation. Again, all of us having a great time. Now seems that I can\\\'t get rid it. I have replayed in my mind over and over again that what it is saying cannot be true, it is just nonsense. I have suffered with OCD for 20 years now. It is not always bad but is triggered by happy times. My kids are my life and it is always trying to say things about them to \\\"change reality\\\" to change how things really are. (their father, our relationship, our love for each other) I just want to enjoy my family and my life without all this nonsense upsetting me. Thanks! Keep up the good work.

A.)What you really want to do is to stop giving your OCD an identity. Such as "it" is ruining my life. "It" is "you" I do understand what you are saying though, but We create these thoughts and that is all they are. Just like when we watch a movie, we get scared because our brain doesn't know the difference until we remind ourselves that we are just watching a movie, then we snap out of the trance. Well the same thing, when you have an OCD thought, it's like you are watching a movie in your mind, recognize this and remind yourself that you are just watching a mind movie. Let the movie keep playing, don't try to turn it off, but you can look away and you can do that by focusing on something else. When you try to focus on something else and the thought seems to keep intruding into your life, remind yourself that it is just like a movie and that you don't have to be afraid or react with fear because it is not real. It seems that you already know that it is not real, but it feels so real, just like when we watch a scary movie and we actually feel fear. This kind of thinking has always helped me to separate these thoughts from thoughts that I should give attention to like my family and my work. Remember the movie...

Hi, well as far as my...

Stop your rituals today!

Q.) Hi, well as far as my OCD goes, I really do feel all alone. When I was first diagnosed with it, I did not believe it. Even though I have an intense fear of germs and contamination, still I didnt want to believe I had OCD because some of my symptoms are very unlike the symptoms described as being an OCD issue. Then I turned to the internet and asked around to people that also have OCD, and describing the symptoms I have and if they go through the same thing. No one that I asked has this problem. Well anyways, my question is kinda embarassing, but Ill try, so here goes.....I dont know, but I guess what Im asking is, can this actually be a rare and very unique symptom, or can it be something that alot of OCDers go through and I just met anyone who does yet? Ok, my main OCD symptom is that, well, I have a spitting obsession. But unlike how guys just spit because its in their nature, my problem is like 10 times worse. I spit 24/7. Well, what I mean is, I carry a large glass with me to spit in and take it everywhere I go, even into stores, because my compulsion to spit usually happens every 5-10 minutes. If I tried to hold it in, it builds up, and this scares me and I freak out because I CAN NOT swallow it for any reason. If I do, my body will be severely poisoned, and I could die. I can clearly see that this drives my family crazy, but I just cant help it! Please help me on this issue. Is this very rare, or do many people have this same issue? Pleeeeeeeease reply soon ok? Thanks for reading. Im desperate for answers. Its impossible for me to sleep at night because of this OCD issue, so please help in any way that you can!!!!! Many, many thanks to you for taking the time to read this.

Q.) There are many rituals that are embarrassing. You don't have to worry about that aspect. Just think about where your saliva comes from. God made our bodies the way they are. There are only a few things that a human needs to survive and you know that spitting is not one of them. I swallow my saliva all the time and I'm not dead yet. Sometimes we need to say our fears out loud. Think of how many people you know that don't do this ritual. Think of how many of them are alive. Your brain should be able to see that you don't need to spit. You should swallow right as you are reading this. If you have anxiety, know that in your stomach there is hydrochloric acid which can melt most things. It can definitely destroy saliva, so it's impossible for you to be poisoned. God would not give us saliva if it could poison us, so you know it can't. What you need to do is just swallow, see how it's uncomfortable but it's not going to kill you. Even when the fear is strong, just know that you will live through it, I guarantee it!

our 12 year old son...

Free members area >

Q.) Our 12 yr old son we think is suffering OCD. We are at the point of taking him to the Doctors but wish WE could do more to help him. Is there a chemical imbalance we should check out first?

A.) I would definitely take him to the doctors to rule out everything else. He should also do a formal diagnosis or be able to refer you to a counselor if need be. However somethings that you as parents can do is make sure that you feed him organic food. More and more foods are filled with preservatives, pesticide residues, even in our water are harmful chemicals. I would also recommend distilled water or water purified by reverse osmosis. Kids are more prone to be affected by these chemicals as their bodies are still growing and forming. We want our cells to act the way they are supposed to, but we don't want to give them the right fuel and we wonder why they don't work. It took me forever to give up twinkies and hohos and colas! Oh man, I do love me a good cola. but seriously, once you go organic, these old foods start to taste too sweet and it's kinda disgusting.

As far as emotionally, I would be there for him. Tell him he can do anything he puts his mind to. Praise him when he has little victories and this will pave the way for big victories. Be patient with him and help him gradually. The Bible says that if you teach a kid in the way he should go, even though he turn away, he'll come back to the principles you have put in his mind.

Q.) How do you forgive yourself for OCD behavior that caused you to lose a loved one?

Free members area >

A.) You did not ask for OCD consciously, so it's not your fault. You CANNOT blame yourself for something you had no control over. Many people, almost all OCD sufferers never see it coming. You literally go from feeling normal to "what the heck is wrong with me!" Beating yourself up about anything is unproductive, your energy is better spent bringing and attracting blessings into your life. Think about what you want today. Ask for anything in your life to yourself. Say, I want to have a great day today. I usually say the line, "Make it a great day!" in my e-mails. This person once sent me an e-mail with that in it and I really connected with that statement. It is up to us to have a great day! So today, I want to have a great day. I'm sure you do to. Sometimes things happen in this world and we don't know why, and that's ok. We're only supposed to know today what we know today. Let the past be past, and stop looking behind, but look forward. We head in the direction we are looking.

A.) Hey abhishek, I was in your same position two years ago and that is exactly why I created the free membership site. Feel free to use all the tools on there. Many people have found that this blog is one of the most helpful aspects of the site and there aren't any other places that I know of where people get most of their questions answered for free. I can appreciate the fact that your family is not understanding, as mine wasn't either. What I did was just focus on what I wanted. I said to myself that I wanted to be OCD free and I demanded it from the universe, from God and from myself. I believed that it could happen and so it did! That is the whole key abhishek. By your faith you are healed. But faith without works is dead. You need to back up your faith with actions. This morning I had an OCD thought from the past, I quickly realized that it was an OCD thought and I dismissed it like a person without OCD would and I went about my morning happy. Sometimes these thoughts will come up, they happen to everyone, but when you can quickly dismiss it because you know it's OCD and you know that the anxiety can't hurt you, you will be free of it. Over time you develop a thick skin for these kinds of thoughts and it gets harder and harder for the thoughts to affect you. Keep at it, I know you can do it!

I'm a doctor, who happens to suffer from...

Q.) I’m a doctor, who happens to suffer from OCD – my particular fear is getting HIV / AIDS. I know all the facts and know that how the disease is transmitted, but as you know, having OCD, reason and logic go out of the window. I have tried gradual exposure in the past, which worked, but I have slacked and have gone back into my shell. I’m ready to try a new approach. I want to expose myself to all the normal triggers without doing the usual checking / reassurance techniques. I heard it is called flooding. My question is how effective is “flooding”, if it is done properly – i.e. if I strongly resist the urge to check and get reassurance.

A.) Flooding is very effective for some people. I prefer combining things. Some people pick one thing that they think will be effective and leave everything else alone. I am of the view that I want as many tools in my toolbox as possible. Just knowing that they are there helps tremendously. People that are checkers doubt themselves. When you do something that is necessary like lock your door, say to yourself, I have locked the door, I checked it once and now I'm going to go about my business. If and when you do feel the anxiety that maybe you didn't check it right, or maybe it's not really locked, this is when you say, "Stop!" I used to also say, "I don't care!" God is in control, If I check the door, my OCD will be worse, if I resist and feel this pain now, that feeling of pain means I'm getting better because I am teaching my brain a new way to process this fear. So when I get sudden fears in my life, I say, I am going to choose to react to this fear by saying, I am sure of myself, I know the door is locked, when I do things, I always get them right the first time. If I missed something, it doesn't matter, I'm human and I'm doing my best and me doing something one time is my best. You will have a whole bunch of thoughts fighting these statements, ignore them because you are speaking into your life what you want. This is biblical too. Phil 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

(Questions are briefly answered here in this blog. I am currently creating a product that will answer these questions in great detail with "how to" step-by-step instructions and audio, so check for this in up coming e-mails!)

"Get rid of checking for good!"

Q.) How do I stop myself from wanting to get rid of my belongings?

A.) Find out what the underlying fear is that is causing you to feel this way. How you find out what this fear is ask yourself this question, "Why do I want to get rid of my things, what am I afraid will happen if I don't?" This should help you zero in on your fear like a sniper. I've used this a lot. Then reverse the question, "What bad will happen if I keep my things?" This should mentally lighten the the fear for you and you should be able to then shrug it off you the way people do who don't suffer from OCD. You may need to practice for a bit, but it works like a charm!

"The key to living without OCD!"

Q.) Is ocd related with anxiety or caused by anxiety?

A.) OCD is directly caused by anxiety. If you face and conquer your anxiety, the OCD CANNOT exist! period. How I faced my anxiety is I would plan and put myself in situations that made me anxious and see how long I could stick through it and you know what, if you embrace the panic and say do your worst and bring it on, it really is empowering. Sometimes it makes you weak and queezy. Sometimes you want to die, but once you have your first few victories, that feels so good! You feel like you are making real progress! It's important to have your first few victories because they give you a hope and a reason to continue!

I need help learning how to overcome my....

Q.) I need help learning how to overcome my obsession with perfection. I am just realizing how it is contributing to the dissolution of my marriage. How do I learn how to be less anal and live with someone so opposite my personality?

A.) A big part of growing in this world is learning that almost everything is out of our control. Part of being anal is trying to go against how the world is, it causes unnecessary friction. The less anal you become, the happier you will be and the easier your life will be. This should be a great motivation for you. Sometimes we don't need to know "how" We should instead ask why? If your "why" is great enough, and the motivation to change strong enough, the why will come. Do it because you want to have a good marriage. Do it cause you want to be at peace with yourself and you want your life to be easier.

Become too lazy to perform rituals...

Q.) i really want to be free of constantly obsessing over the same really bad thoughti have told famiily and a very close friend i would just like the best advice from somebody that has recovered of how to deal with and get rid of this horrible condition! thanks xxx

A.) I remember when It all started for me with one nagging obsessive thought and it was that way for a while, then it spread into other thoughts like a cancer. What really freed me from it was the fact that I realized no matter how much I did the ritual, It never really gave me peace. I was always worried I did it wrong, what it came to was I was just too overloaded doing all these rituals, that I just sat there and said, I'm tired, I can't do it anymore, it's just too exhausting! That was the turning point for me. I simply was too lazy to perform rituals, and I'll tell you what, it's a lot easier!

Is my boyfriend causing my anxiety or am I with the wrong guy?

Q.) I worry excessively about different things over periods of time, usually a few years at a time. at the moment it has \\\"moved onto\\\" sexual thoughts, where i am constantly worried whether i would have done this or that with a guy, and the reason that i worry so extensively is that i am in a happy long term relationship and would never want to cheat on my boyfriend, but if i think someone is attractive in the slightest, i worry \\\"what if\\\" and could i ever have done anything and my mind thinks of every possible thing, even the worst thing that could happen and i really stress that i could actually have done it if the situation had allowed it. I stress to a point where it interferes with my daily activities quite badly. Is this \\\"normal\\\" for an ocd sufferer and what can i do about it? I am on medication and have been to psychologists and a psychiatrist. Please help if you can! Many thanks!

A.) This is normal! I have seen this and even been there myself in a slightly different way, although all OCD's are slightly different because we make them up in our minds. I used to see women at the college that my girlfriend went to and I would have definitely cheated, in fact I did with two girls, not at the college but back home. I finally had to tell her and this just tore me up inside. I actually got major OCD after the first one and I paid for it for two years! She broke up with me and after a lot of apologies and flowers and major life changes she decided to give me another chance and I have never done it again!! From experience I can tell you, it's NOT worth it! It hurts everyone around you and yourself! So when this thought pops into your mind, say, nope, not going to go through all that! Then start to think about how grateful you are for your boyfriend.

On another note, if you are always looking at other guys, you may be with the wrong guy, maybe you'll need to break up with him and date other people.

How to determine this is to ask yourself if you love him. If you still like being with him, do you want to work it out, can you see yourself with him in the future. If you can answer yes to any of the above questions, talk to him and see what you can work out. If you can answer no to one or more of the above questions, you may need to re evaluate your relationship.

I've gone to a therapist a whole year with no clear results!

Q.) I know I suffer from some sort of anxiety and I have been speaking with a good therapist for over a year. I am getting better slowly (I think) but I feel overwhelmed at times. Can this condition really be cured? Does OCD affect mental capacity permanently or does it just cause you to lose focus when you are experiencing a bout of the obsession/compulsion?

A.) I really hate hearing this, how you've been to your therapist for a year with no results that you can clearly see. Don't worry, it's not your fault, it's theirs. I would urge you to stop wasting your money with them. As far as I am concerned, they are robbing you. That said, OCD does not affect you permanently, it is just a habit, like smoking or anything else. There are conflicting studies saying ocd affects the brain, and that ocd doesn't. All I can tell you is this, I had major ocd and now it's gone. It didn't come easy, I had to refuse performing rituals, but the long term benefits far outweighed the short term suffering! You have everything you need in your brain right now to become OCD free. Just decide that you don't want to suffer with it anymore, read the quote on the next page that has a link at the bottom of this answer, which says it all.

Q.) How do i best help my teen daughter with her anxiety and OCD?

A.) When I had anxiety and OCD my girlfriend at first used to enable me and let me talk her into performing rituals or helping me to perform rituals or not go places because of my anxiety. Later on she got sick of it and stopped helping me and stopped enabling me, she helped to save me. She told me that she was there for me if I wanted to talk and she told me she believed in me. She did research to find out what anxiety and OCD where. I would refer her to sites like this and others where she can read the questions and answers of other readers. I have set up a community where people come to get help but don't enable each other by telling poor me stories. This will hurt them. Instead, the best way is to learn from people who have become OCD and anxiety free and to hang out with people who don't have OCD or anxiety. We are the sum of the five people we hang out with the most.

Q.) when i drive i fear not having discernment

A.) I remember when I was having an anxiety attack while I was driving from quincy mass. to manchester, NH, it was just terrible. I remember pulling up to a gas station in the middle of nowhere and walking into the bathroom, kneeling at the sink asking God to help me. When I got out of the bathroom, I told the people at the counter that I did not know where I was and this lady offered to lead me to the highway toward manchester. I just could not believe it and I thanked God! That lady was my angel that night, God had sent her for me. When I was driving before I got to that gas station, I felt like I was gonna lose control of the car and crash into the woods. When that lady was gone and I was driving on the highway, I was confident because I knew where I was. I was so happy, I did not think about my driving and I go there just fine! The trick is to distract yourself from your fear, thank God for radios cd's tapes, mp3's etc. They are all available for you, try em out, take em for a spin and see how you do.

"I'm free of OCD, you can be too!"

Q.) What can I do to stop hair pulling?

A.) When you feel like pulling your hair, chew gun instead. Replace it with something else, you can touch your pointer finger and thumb together instead. If it gets tough, press hard. Clasp your hands together if it gets really tough and look in the mirror and say, I want to be beautiful, God gave me this hair and I would be hurting the temple of God if I hurt myself by pulling it out. Thank God for your hair and promise Him that you will not pull it out, but you will take care of it from now on.

"Make OCD go today!"

Q.) how i get ride of the bad images in my mind

A.) When you feel the thoughts coming up, picture yourself in your happy place. I use a beach visualization in my mind. I just picture a beach and I picture the ocean and the waves. I pay attention to details, the sand, how it feels between my toes, the smell of the air, the cool crisp ocean water, the perfect weather. I created OCD thoughts, I can let them linger while I focus on my beach, I just pay more attention to my beach because that's what I want to think about and I've decided long ago that I will choose to think about what I want.

"Get to the beach and be OCD free!"

I started having symptoms at age 23...

Q.) I started having symptoms at the age of 23, and my life was so much easier before. Sometimes I don\\\'t know what happened to me, I\\\'m not the same person I used to be. I want to know what may have caused the change in my thoughts and what I can do to make myself better?? No one feels I have a problem and they don\\\'t understand, I feel ashamed and therefore, I do not discuss it or ask for help. What can I do?

A.) OCD is an anxiety disorder. Although, it's not a "disorder" it's a by product of anxiety. Anxiety is becoming more prevalent in today's world because of the hustle and bustle increase. Our deadlines are shorter and the hours in the day are stretched more. Technology has not helped us to have more time, but has allowed us to cram more things into our day! Trust me, I am here answering these questions when I have so much marketing to do, but I realize that no one else is doing this and it really needs to be done and I love it! Hopefully getting a marketing guy soon;) so I can do what I really love, which is helping everyone I can...

k, back to the issue at hand. So you can see from above that I feel that the more busy we get as a people, the more anxiety will grow and the more ocd will occur. That is how it originated. It is also learned, like kids who are stressed out by their parents and day cares and traveling and yelling and schools and tv, even kids are affected by stress.

What you can do right now to make yourself better is to reduce the stress in your life. Write down only two major goals that you have to accomplish today. I just did that this morning and my mind stopped spinning! It does wonders. Schedule less things. Take mini vacations where you just lay down somewhere for ten or fifteen minutes and get a good power nap. In Japan and other places they have these places business people can take power naps, we should have that in the US!

"Become OCD free forever!"

Violent obsessions about people you love?

Q.) Why cant I see that it is ocd that is causing me to have violent obsessions about people that i love with all my heart? To know even after having this 18 years I still dont get that. I am not and have never hurt a flea my entire life. The thoughts make me so scared, and anxious, and most of all guilty.

A.) What was really comforting for me when I had those thoughts was when I learned that we cannot control the thoughts that "pop" into our minds. We CAN control how we react to them. So if the thought of hurting a loved one pops in your mind, know that it's something you can't control and you are not going to be afraid of that thought because you know that you are not that way. Tell yourself that you will not be timid anymore that you are going to be firm with yourself and you have decided that you are not going to fear those thoughts because you would never do that and you have already decided. When you have thoughts that question this decision, be firm with yourself and know you've already made a decision to not fear these thoughts. These thoughts aren't worth your time when you have so many other important things that you should be thinking about.

"Let go of OCD today!"

Help, Please!

Q.) Help, PLEASE! I don\\\'t know if I have OCD! {Yes, I know you get this a lot.} I\\\'m pretty sure I do; I\\\'ve always had strange rituals that I still have for some reason, like having to... um... say certain chant things, almost like a prayer of some sort, but not religious, if I ever think of someone dying or harm. Throughout my life, what I think is OCD has come in many forms; obsessing over being scared to go to bed and staying up until 2:00 AM for nothing, reciting chants, and even having to use the restroom every two seconds {not literally} because I\\\'m afraid I won\\\'t make it. I\\\'m nearly 13, so it\\\'s really, REALLY pathetic. I was raised normally, but when my sleeping problems developed, I saw a therapist. I told her about everything but the chants; maybe this is why I wasn\\\'t diagnosed with OCD. Last night, my mom said she thought I had OCD. I had no idea what that was, so I looked it up and took a couple of those \\\"Do You have OCD?\\\" quizzes. They all say I have OCD. PLEASE help me! ~Anonymous

A.) Yes, you are struggling with Obsessive thoughts. I want to let you know right now that you are ok. There is nothing wrong with you. Your brain would look normal in an mri scan. I used to be where you were and I was totally freaking out! Seriously I thought I was the only one in the world! I thought I was going crazy and that they would lock me up in the state hospital! I can assure you, this won't happen to you! The fact that you fear this shows that you ARE NORMAL! So take a deep breath and relax, I've been there, and this is what I've found.

We create our fears. We don't know how or why so don't worry about that. It just happens. There is nothing wrong with fear, it's necessary in this world. So is anxiety. Fear and anxiety keep us safe.

Sometimes we react to things out of fear when others wouldn't. That's ok. The biggest secret, is to realize that all we are doing is reacting to a thought with fear. You have TOTAL control over this. This might sound strange, but don't worry about controlling your thoughts. The more control you let go, the more you will have.

Just realize that no one in this world can control what thoughts pop into their head, NO ONE! We CAN control how we react to these thoughts.

Think about someone you know that does not have OCD. How would they react to a thought of one of their family members dying? They would probably in their minds, say, that would be horrible, but they're alive, it's ok, then they would move on.

So how can you get to this? Be comforted knowing you have everything you need to think normally, you don't have to go to the store or go to a counselor or take medication to achieve this, although, they can be beneficial. I always say to use all the tools that are available to us.

The next time you fear something, ask yourself, how would someone without OCD react to this thought. If you don't know, ask someone you know that doesn't have OCD how they would react, then copy what they would do. If you want to be free of OCD, just realize that millions and millions have felt the way you do now and much worse!

Know that you are completely normal and that you WILL BECOME OCD FREE! Decide that is what you will do, and tackle each one of your obsessions one by one, refuse to do them and get a buddy or parent to help you through the anxiety. Take a break for an hour or two, then try again. You can do it! I believe in you! If I could do it, then you DEFINITELY CAN!

Q.) Does a person become immune to their OCD medication?

A.) Yes, overtime, your body adjusts and your doctor will probably increase the dose. This is for most medicines. You don't have to worry, many medications are effective for years and some longer then you can live. I would focus on using the medicine to stop performing rituals, and slowly get off the medication. Take comfort knowing that if you ever need it, it will be there. I used this technique and I never had to use my anxiety medication again...

Q.) Why do people with OCD seem to notice more details than those that don\\\\\\\'t suffer?

A.) Because they're looking. People with OCD have a fear that they will lose control, so they look for indicators and markers they can grip with their minds to feel that sense of control. It's not that they are power hungry, they are insecure. I used to be that way, I used to doubt everything under the sun and beyond. In a world where no one really has control, I could not come to grips with the fact that I really can't have control. I had to get comfortable with change. I had to shift my thinking into being happy and taking comfort in the tossing turning waves of this world. At the same time, I realized that the more you let go of control, the more of it you have. It's a paradox. In order to get control, you must let it go.

Question below

Q.) How do you deal with OCDs involving, what seems to me to be the biggest questions of all, anxieties about religion, death and the after life (if there is one)? For me, this is trying to thing the unthinkable and in a proper state of mind a person would probably not dwell on it , be not afraid and move on. But for me my mind often ruminates on these thoughts and causes me great stress and suffering.

A.) To this day, when something major happens, I have thoughts try to get me to wrestle with them. I just refuse to fight. I woke up this morning and I got this shot to my stomach of fear because of an ocd thought I had. I then laughed and said, "My initial reaction is fear, but after I realize that, I will choose not to fear this thought, it's a thought I created. I will not create a thought and then fear it. This thought is an ocd thought and I dismiss it." Easier said then done I know, but try it. It's so liberating. I am able to do this on the rare occasions they occur. It's all part of being OCD free. The thoughts still happen and with time less and less, but I have long since performed rituals. I can't remember the last time.

Q.) why do i get these horrible thoughts when i am nothing like that?

A.) You know, I used to have those same thoughts and I would question my sanity. I would think like if I was the only person who was not mentally ill who had these thoughts. I would then think that maybe I was gonna be one of those killers you read about on the news and this scared me. Then I had an aha moment and realized that because I was scared of these thoughts and disturbed by them, I was reacting to these thoughts like any SANE person would do! I then realized that I didn't have to fear these thoughts anymore because it is a fact that we cannot control the thoughts that pop into our heads, so you are not bad for having these thoughts. Everybody has them. Most people just dismiss them as dumb and that is what I did and it works like a charm!

Question below

Q.) If I do not engage in my ritual, my mind will have the anxiety for the whole day and I could not do anything. Hence, I always give in and had my ritual done. How to avoid this?

A.) In this case, use a transition. Instead of going from performing to not performing, perform a different ritual. Like in an earlier post, I said to blink your eyes or something, something you don't care about, but something that will replace. I personally like to replace OCD thoughts with a passion. I disarm them by saying, "This thought is unproductive, I refuse to focus on it." When you can master shifting your focus, you will be OCD free, period.

Q.) will it go away?

A.) In my experience, yes. You gotta want it. Make it your goal. Then learn from people who have done what you want to do. This works in everything in life. The results are absolutely magical.

"See ya OCD!"

Q.) How to stop thinking about the ocd problem and concentrate on my work and other activities?

A.) Write down what is bothering you and put it in your pocket, tell yourself that you will get to it right after you are done work or your activity. You will deal with it then. You can choose when you deal with it! After all, you created the whole thing, so when it comes to OCD, you make the rules!

"Adios OCD!"

Q.) Even though a normal person cleans after passing faeces does in the atomic concept he is able to cleanhimself of all atoms of faeces

A.) No, this is out of your control and in this case, you need to trust that God knew what He was doing when He designed us. We are fearfully and wonderfully made! Trust in God and cast all your burdens on Him because He cares for you!

Question below

84.) Can it affect a relationship, I feel my husband has OCD. When you try to talk to him he just shut you out. He is obessive about himself, clothes, looks , has 86 dress slacks 100 ties etc. When he does something he starts out slow and than does not know when to stop. When there is any kind of pressures in his life he runs. Please help me are these sign of OCD.

A.) Yes, these are the tell tale signs. What you can do is the same thing my girlfriend did for me when I had OCD. She didn't enable me, I would try to get her to do rituals with me or even for me and she refused. She however, was there for me. She told me she believed in me and that I could beat this. She was right the whole time even though I did not believe her. She would help me find materials that would help with my OCD and that is what you are doing here so you're doing the right thing. Although he may not be open at first, be patient. Don't shove OCD materials down his throat. He has to want to change, Just be understanding and remind him that he needs to face this for his family so that the family can be happy. Be there, but express your concerns. Be honest. Put yourself in his shoes as best you can and try to feel what he feels. Ask him how it feels. This way you can be more understanding and you can think of ways to help him through. Read through these posts or better yet, if he reads through these posts, it will give him some tools he can use that will make his journey a lot easier! I wish I had this resource when I had OCD, that's for sure!

"Forever gone OCD!"

Q.) I bite my nails all the time, how can i stop.

A.) Go old school on this one, seriously. Put tabasco sauce on your nails. Or something else unpleasant. Use your imagination. Put something on your nails that you would not want in your mouth, but something that will not hurt you. Your brain will object to your nail biting for you, trust me.

"Get rid of OCD today!"

Q.) can I get rid of OCD? how soon?Is it necessary to take oral medicines/

A.) You can get rid of OCD without the help of anyone by figuring out what your fear is, challenging this fear in your mind and saying it out loud to disarm it and see if for what it really is in most cases. Then vow to yourself to not be a slave to an idea or fear anymore and refuse to perform the ritual. Know that the anxiety that follows will not hurt you and after a few rough sessions with yourself, you will find it easier. This is what I've done with anxiety as well. The first time you try to face it, it will be hard, go through it, then an hour later try again, it will be almost effortless, or at least that's what worked for me! This blog is full of techniques that you can try, so if one does not work, don't lose hope, there is something here for everybody.

"Say goodbye to OCD for good!"

Q.) do you have to make an strong effort to get rid of ocd?

A.) That depends on you. I know for me, I had to really want it and I did have to make a strong effort. I learned that I had to face it, knowing that not performing a ritual was NOT going to kill me or hurt me in any way was one of the most powerful things I've learned. It's really not going to hurt you, knowing this makes it much, much easier!

"No more OCD!"

Q.) hand washing

A.) The cornerstone of OCD. Transition from washing your hands, to putting a dab of lotion on your hands and this will help your hands to be moisturized instead of beat up with harsh soaps and vigorous scrubbing. So whenever you feel like washing your hands, don't. When it gets unbearable, put a dab of lotion on your hands and rub it in for no more than ten seconds. You can only repeat this once every three hours. This will help to train your brain to not continue washing. Replace your fear with a desire. What is it that you want out of life? Write down a few things. Then go after the first thing you wrote down. Do everything you can logically to accomplish it. When you have fears, say them out loud to disarm them, use the transition above and write down what you want to focus on or carry the list with you and look at it when your mind won't unfocus from OCD. Actually carrying the list with you, you can pull it out and this will help you refocus your mind from your fear to your desire.

"Let go of OCD today!"

Q.) How can I stop obsessing

A.) There is one thing that I heard of that you could try is to create another obsession that you don't really have and do that every time you feel like doing the old one. The trick is to make it something that you really don't care about and something that takes considerably less amounts of time. For example: Instead of washing the dishes a million times or touching a door knob or checking your baby a million times, instead, blink your eyes once. Something like this, whatever it is, do it only once. Sets of blinks don't count, it doesn't matter if you count them because they don't count. Think of it like it only works with one blink. You can't do it wrong, so no repeating. if you are unsure, it means you already blinked. You see what I'm doing? I'm painting you into a corner where you can't resort to your old ways and your brain will have to come up with different ways. No, this technique is something that I did not do but I am putting it here because it has worked for some people and what worked for me may not work for you. So all the tips and techniques here HAVE WORKED for a lot of people.

"Say bye bye to OCD today!"

Monday, September 1, 2008

Q.) how do you know what\\\'s real and what\\\'s ocd?

A.) Here's a quick simple test. Ask someone that does not have ocd if the thought you are having seems strange or not. Usually an ocd thoughts seems normal and logical in our minds, say it out loud and you will know if it's ocd or not. Say your fear out loud. I had someone say that they felt someone was staring at them through their web cam even though it was off. I've had thoughts like this myself and when he said it out loud he couldn't help but laugh. That's how you can know!

"Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Help!"

Q.) How do I help someone who has it?

A.) One of the best ways to help someone who has OCD is to be there for him or her. Though you may not be able to relate to your friend, being an understanding companion and standing by their side is the greatest gift anyone could ever ask for.

If you want to help someone overcome obsessive compulsive thoughts, you could be an asset to their recovery by helping them with their game plan...help them write out goals for overcoming their OCD.

Also, when they have the desire to perform a ritual, do not enable them to do so. For example, if they need you to walk out of the house two more times, don't do it. Help him or her realize that walking out of the house two more times will not cause harm to your friend.

When they are feeling the anxiety, tell them that you are there for them. Helping them to see that thinking like someone who doesn't have OCD is the cure, and you can be that example.

"Get our of my house OCD!"

Q.) I have fear that i will kill my mother with a knife..how do i deal with this.

A.) The fact that you fear that you will kill your mother with a knife means that you probably won't do it. What we resist persists. If you keep trying to "RESIST" these thoughts, they will persist! When the thought of killing your mother with a knife pops into your head, ask yourself, "What if I don't kill my mother with a knife?" "What if instead, I tell her how thankful I am for her?" Then I can see right now that you could do this then the thought would pop back in your mind and your anxiety would spike again and you would be like, why did it only work for seconds? Then ask yourself this, Do you want to go to jail for life? Do you want to let negative thoughts that you don't have control over tell you what to do? Absolutely not! No one on the planet can control what thoughts pop into their mind, but we can control what we dwell on. When that thought pops into your mind, just tell yourself that it's an irrational thought and that you are not going to be afraid by it and that that is not who you are and that you are not going to give this thought any more of your focus. You just don't have time to waste on dumb thoughts!

"Let go of your obsessive compulsive disorder today!"

Q.) how to get ride of ocd so i can get on with my life. and what is the best medson to take for ocd

A.) One thing that I would do is to focus on shifting your focus from how to get rid of OCD to a passion of yours. A passion is something that you can't wait to get up to do and something you can't get to sleep at night because you are so excited about it! You can find this by writing down the things that make you feel happy inside and the things that you do already for free on your own for fun! Then find a way to make money doing what you love! That is what I have done with this site and I absolutely love it and I rarely take a day off because I really want to help as many people as I can, I want my life to mean something in this world. If I don't help you guys, then I feel like I went through OCD for nothing! I can't have that!

The best medicine that I have taken personally for anxiety, which leads to OCD is celexa, I don't know if it's spelled right, but the generic name for it is citalopram. I would recommend becoming OCD free like I have without medicine. Before I knew how to get rid of it naturally, I tried a whole bunch of different drugs and I also self medicated with alcohol, opiods, I tried all those things and all they do is treat symptoms and not the root cause and that's what you've got to learn how to address! I cannot prescribe medicine and I would say that this drug worked for me, but it won't necessarily work for you! You MUST talk to a doctor before taking any drug! There may be one that works better for you if you choose that route!

"Obsessive compulsive order be gone!"

Q.) What if I don\\\'t love her, or ever will? What if I can\\\'t get up on my feet and have a good life?

A.) Start today by asking yourself, "What if I DO love her, what if I CAN get up on my feet and have a good life?"

You can see how that feels right there just asking that question in the positive light. From now on ask your questions to yourself from a positive light. Instead of saying, "What if I can't do that?" Say, "What if I CAN do that?" This one technique alone will bring a flood of happiness and hope and inspiration into your life!

"Bye bye OCD!"

Q.) can ocd remove permanently and i can live like others

A.) I know you can, I have! Here's the kicker. A lot of people are looking for the easy way out. I'll let you in on a little secret, There is none! You've really got to apply what you learn. The thing that separates the winners from the losers is action. Speed of implementation is next, Once you learn something, you've got to apply it right away, other wise you've wasted your time learning it! I don't want anyone to buy my product unless they are going to apply it. Don't buy it and read it once and say, "Oh, It doesn't work!" I know it works because it worked for me! I had to APPLY it! So yes you can become OCD free, but you've got to do the work, and here's the good news, once you develop the new habits, and hammer the new information in your mind, you've got it for life!

Q.) What percentage of people who suffer from OCD are checkers?

A.) No one really knows for sure. There are a lot though. I used to be a checker myself, I used to have a lot of different kinds, it was aweful. I remember one time I was installing wiring in the back of a stove and I had to keep checking to make sure that all the grooves in the screws were facing in the right direction! I had to keep checking to make sure I "got it right!?" ugh, I cringe to remember that! I just want to shower that off me! As an ex-checker myself, I'll tell you, it's tedious, annoying and just makes me unhappy. I want to be happy, so I choose happiness. Before I never even knew it was a choice. I thought certain things had to happen in order for me to be happy, I never realized that those would never happen until I decided to be happy.
