Q.) How do I get better?

A.) When you learn a new technique, really apply it! Don't try it a few times and quit. No, rather do it until it works. Make sure you learned it from someone who used it and had good results with it first though. Once you see that it's helped enough people, then you know you've got a winner. Believe that you can get better which sadly a lot of people won't get to this level and they will always suffer because of their stubbornness. Instead, be a positive minded person and this will set a good foundation in your mind to get better. Then do the work that it takes. Refuse to do rituals, focus on what you love, write down the things that you love if your mind is hard to refocus. I know you can do it!

"Let go of OCD today!"

Q .) Do you seriously have something that is good for OCD sufferers?

A.) I had OCD, now I am cured. If that's not good, I don't know what is! A lot of people buy all these OCD products and never use them, they are looking for a magic bullet. There are no magic pills, books, tapes that once you listen to will heal you. The best program in the world can't help you if you don't implement it. However, If you truly implement what's in my program like I have, you can't help but be OCD free. Don't buy any product unless you first believe that you can be OCD free. How can you do something you don't believe is possible?

"No more OCD!"

Q.) How do I alleviate repetitive negative thoughts?

A.) Start by listing the things that you are most thankful for. Smiling has also been proven to release chemicals in the brain that makes you happier. Also, looking for the good in situations will help a lot. If you want to be a positive person, you have think positively, Sometimes we need to act the way we want to feel, for example, when you're sad...if you want to be happy act as though you are happy then you will become happy. You must act before you feel. From the words of Professor William James of Harvard, "Action seems to follow feeling, but really action and feeling go together; and by regulating the action, which is under the more direct control of the will, we can indirectly regulate the feeling, which is not."

"No more Obsessive Compulsive Disorder!"

Q.) what happens when the medicine stops working?

A.) The first thing I would do is tell my doctor. They may need to increase the dosage. I would also try facing my OCD by trying not to perform rituals. By going against your desire to perform a ritual, you will not only strengthen your mind, but you will also gain self control.

"Be gone OCD!!"

Question below

Q.) I have never met someone, who, like me, had a religious compulsion to save every soul they came across. Who felt God calling them to witness at all times of the day, even before dressing or eating breakfast until late at night and into the night.

A.) There is a time to eat, a time to sleep, a time to wake, a time to be alone, a time to be with people, a time to witness and a time to pray. Jesus went off in the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights without witnessing to one person and he started His ministry in His thirties and this is the Son of God! It is not God's will for you to witness 24/7. Talk to a good pastor so they can give you scriptures to back this up if you feel you need that.

"Let go of obsessive compulsive disorder now!"

Q.) how do i stop

A.) Here's a really great trick I got from Susan Jeffers; When you have a nagging thought, say to yourself, "Stop!" This goes in line with taking control of your thoughts instead of letting them control you.

(Questions are briefly answered here in this blog. I am currently creating a product that will answer these questions in great detail with "how to" step-by-step instructions and audio, so check for this in up coming e-mails!)

"Adios OCD!"

Q.) how to cope with ocd thoughts ?

A.) Right when you have ocd thoughts, don't let them be your focus. You can't choose what thoughts come to your mind, but you can choose what you focus on. When you have the OCD thoughts, don't fight them, just think about what you love and the things that you have to do. I would recommend using a piece of NLP. When you have an OCD thought, say something out loud that makes you laugh. You can write down a list of things that make you laugh, for me, I say, thank God my feet don't stink today! I got this from Anthony Robbins and it definitely helped!

"See ya later OCD!"

Q.) how to be casual with strangers

A.) I used to struggle with this myself. A lot of times people just thought I was weird. What you can do is envision how you want to act before you go out, then act like that even if you feel like you're dying inside. If you need to, go to the bathroom and recoup, then go back out and continue acting like you don't have OCD. Your brain will see your actions and this will force you to think in a different way. Your brain learns by what you do. That is why rituals become longer over time because that is what you are teaching your brain. The good news is, the opposite is also true.

(Questions are briefly answered here in this blog. I am currently creating a product that will answer these questions in great detail with "how to" step-by-step instructions and audio, so check for this in up coming e-mails!)

"Goodbye OCD!"

Q.) How do you fight it without medicine?

A.) You need to be aware that your mind is the most potent medicine that you can take. Your brain produces chemicals which are just as potent as some of the most powerful medicines out there, seriously!

When you try to "fight" ocd, you'll never win. How can you win a fight with yourself? Practice not giving your OCD thoughts the time of day, you don't yet know the power of this.

"Lose your OCD today!"

Q.) I can\\\'t talk about it

A.) I recently talked to someone who was afraid to tell their family and friends. This is totally understandable. We just don't know how they're going to take it or what they'll think of us. It is good to have someone that we can talk to about it. I would recommend it! Not to enable you, but to help you resist performing rituals. I say, take advantage of all that's available, don't paint yourself into a corner.

"Get rid of OCD forever!"

Thursday, August 28, 2008

Q.) how to be free from ocd

A.) To become free from OCD is to get to the point where you don't perform rituals anymore. To get your mind free from thinking about them is the same as quitting smoking. I am speaking from experience on both fronts.

When you smoke, you are not in love with it, when you quit, you will crave it for a while, but if you are not smoking, you are a non-smoker, just because you crave it, does not make you a smoker, you are only a smoker if you smoke and you only have OCD if you perform rituals.

But what we really want is to be free from the craving! We must continue on and after a while, the cravings will grow less and less. Today I am both repulsed by cigarettes and OCD! If I can do it, I know you can!

"No more OCD for me!"

Q.) the best strategy for beating ocd

"No more OCD!"

Q.) the best strategy to face anxiety

A.) One of the best strategies to face anxiety is to let it wash over you. Let it do it's worst, as it can't hurt you. Your brain will see this and it will have a great impact on how you perceive it next time. Doing this may actually cure you of it.

(Questions are briefly answered here in this blog. I am currently creating a product that will answer these questions in great detail with "how to" step-by-step instructions and audio, so check for this in up coming e-mails!)

"Become free from OCD!"

Q.) How do I help my child who is OCD?

A.) My sister has two children and one of them is starting to show obsessive tendencies. If she gives her son a snack and she opens it first, he will throw it away.

He has to open it himself to make sure it's done right. What worked for her is that she would tell him that he needs to eat it after she opens it, or that he won't get one. She also does not enable him in other OCD areas in his life and she said that he's starting to realize that things can't always be the way he wants them, and more importantly that it's ok.

So I would say to not enable your child, and explain to them that our lives are better and that they'll be more happy when they don't try to control everything.

"See ya, OCD!"

Q.) recently had thoughts, so out of character for me, they frighten me. i am off work at mo cos i cant get these thoughts out of my head

A.) I've been where you are. I too had to quit my job as a result of my OCD. I really let it run me then! I look back and think how foolish I was to let it run me like that, but that's not how you feel when you suffer with it.

I just didn't have enough knowledge and I spent more time focusing on my fears than curing them for a long time. So realizing that this is how you are going to feel in the future should help you to look at it more objectively now.

A lot of OCD thoughts are out of people's character, that is why they are disturbing. Knowing that this is common, you should not be as scared. If you scared of a thought that you might do something, that means you probably won't do it. You seem normal to me and I see this all the time. I know you can do it. If I could, I KNOW you can!

"Say bye bye to OCD!"

Q.) How do I cure scrupulosity when there is so much fear that what I do has tainted me in God\\\\\\\'s eyes.

A.) For the readers, scrupulosity describes religious obsessions and compulsions. In Romans 10:9 "If you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Jesus died on the cross so that His blood would cover our sins in God's eyes. So if you do what Romans 10:9 says, it doesn't matter what you've done, Jesus acts as an intermediary between you and God and through Jesus, you are clean in God's eyes, period.

"Get rid of OCD now!"

Question below

Q.) I have any kind of negative thoughts of death or sickness and to overcome that i follow a repetative action of praying everytime or touching the bible which makes me feel better temporarly. or i keep on spitting to remove the ill feeling i am having after the fearfull thought.

A.) Next time you feel like touching the Bible or praying as a ritual, just don't. Feel the fear and do it anyway. See if something bad happens. Test your fear, don't just take it's word for it! See if it's valid!

I guarantee that you'll love the freedom from having to touch the Bible, pray or spit whenever you have a fear. Instead stand up to the bully in your mind and if you do this enough, it will go away, just like the bully at school.

If you keep standing up to the bully, they will go pick on someone who is easier and won't put up such a fight. In this universe, things always choose the path of least resistance.

"Bye bye OCD!"

Q.) cure?

A.) Yes, there is. There are different methods that have worked for different people. CBT, NLP, Hypnosis, therapy, counseling, prayer, church, spiritual, books, cd's, etc. It's what's in all these that are effective, there is a common golden thread, here it is... At some point, the person stopped performing rituals. If you stop performing rituals, you don't have OCD.

"Say goodbye to OCD!"

Q.) Is there anyway to cure my OCD without having to go to a treatment place?

A.) Yes! I cured mine without a treatment place and I saved thousands of dollars! You can too, I would start out with a good support group made of people who don't have OCD. You heard me right, people that don't have OCD. If you surround yourself with people that don't have OCD, their "non-ocd ness" will rub off on you if you seek it out and are open to changing the way you think.

"No more OCD forever!"

Question below

Q.) I have an obsession with illness and death. I am both afraid of such and also think about both all the time. I am 63 years old and have had this since I was around 40. It has gotten worse as I have gotten older. I have tried the usual therapies and medicines but I still suffer immensley. Can I be helped?. I was thinking of stereotactic surgery. I look so forward to hearing from you.

A.) I would definitely go the medicine route before surgery. I honestly think that only the most severe cases where surgery would have a duel role in helping someone that it's appropriate. I highly doubt in your case you should consider this option as you could make your fear come true.

What I want to point out is that we attract the things that we fear into our lives. By fearing death, you may be thinking about doing surgery and ironically that itself could kill you, thereby bringing into your life the thing which you fear and think about all the time. Rather, If the thoughts are just unbearable.

I would talk to your doctor about a good medicine and then learn some mental exercises that you can master. The medicine will make it easier for you to do them. Then you can talk to your doctor about weaning off the medicine, while relying more on the mental exercises.

I would strongly suggest the natural way every time. But it would be foolish to leave out tools that could help and I don't feel that there is anything wrong with medicine when it's indicated.

However, if you want to go the natural route, do mental exercises. What I mean by this, is things which require mental work, such as trying to not perform a ritual and telling yourself that you refuse to live an OCD free lifestyle.

My OCD was horrible and I did not use any medication to heal it. I did it the hard way. By not performing rituals and seeing how it didn't hurt me. This was tough, but I learned some very valuable skills that I have applied to many areas of my life.

It's never too late to find a passion, take some time and find yours. Not only will you be more happy, but you'll find it much easier to let go of unwanted thoughts.

"Let go of OCD now!"

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Q.) does it end up ruining relationships!

A.) It certainly can! In fact, it ruined mine for almost two years. I was blessed enough to have a woman that stood by my side through it, but it drove her crazy and made both her and I miserable! I would definitely get on top of becoming OCD free if you are in a relationship or thinking about entering a relationship because it's only going to get in the way. In fact you could use this as a huge motivation to do the work necessary to become OCD free.

"No more OCD!"

Q.) Am I gay (bisexual)?

A.) A lot of people perform rituals because they have these thoughts. It's natural. I know that I am straight, and I had thoughts like this during the time I had OCD. Then again I had OCD about almost everything! I just faced it, I did was I was so uncomfortable to do, I asked myself, "am I gay?" Then I thought about it and considered the possibility. I came to the conclusion pretty quickly that I was straight. By allowing myself to face this fear instead of avoiding it, I was able to put my mind at ease and ever since then I knew I was straight.

"Become OCD free!"

Q.) Relation between guilt and ocd?

A.) There can be. If you are guilty about something and feel bad about it, you may perform rituals to try to prevent it from happening again or from doing it to anyone else. Either we control our minds or they control us. As long as we are alive our brains are thinking and moving, we need to decide what kind of life we're going to lead. I choose to control my mind and if I feel guilty about something I will apologize and then move on. I force myself to move on by simply saying, I have apologized and my conscious is clear. I declare it to myself and that is what it is.

"Become OCD free!"

Q.) pure-o

A.) Purely obsessional thoughts. Again, it goes back to the root of what is your fear. You gotta isolate it and destroy it by facing it, period. I don't like all the names "professionals" are giving OCD. They all have the same root cause and instead of creating groups that people can feel they belong to, they should focus on killing the root of the problem. So that people that had OCD at one time can feel like they belong to the group of people who are OCD free.

"No more OCD!"

Q.) Is OCD related to anxiety?

A.) OCD is directly caused by anxiety, if you get rid of the anxiety about a fear by facing it and seeing that it's not that scary, the OCD will disappear like it was never there.

(Questions are briefly answered here in this blog. I am currently creating a product that will answer these questions in great detail with "how to" step-by-step instructions and audio, so check for this in up coming e-mails!)

"No more OCD!"

Q.) Why do I feel overwhelmed and out of control all the time?

A.) You may feel this way because you have too much stress in your life. Sit down and write down the things that are stressing you. Write down possible ways to eliminate or solve these things. This will be your plan. Then write down when you want them taken care of by. Then fold this paper up at night and put it in your drawer or on the table or wherever, it really doesn't matter. When you go to sleep and you start to think about stressful things, say to yourself, "I wrote them down, there is nothing I can do about it right now, when I wake up, I'll handle them then." That way you clear your mind and get good rest.

"No more OCD, period!"

Q.) Why do I get so angry and hurt others fellings?

A.) This is a natural reaction to being stressed out about OCD for a lot of people. When you go to hurt someone's feelings, say to them, "I was going to say something hurtful to you, but I know it's just because I'm stressed." That way you can express that you are not happy if they did something to upset you, but without hurting their feelings. Then this may open up a door for you to talk to them about what is stressing you and they may be a good friend to turn to.

"No more OCD!"

Q.) What if I can\\\'t control my actions and Hurt/kill others?

A.) The fact that you are worried about this shows me that you are normal. That is how any normal person would act to those thoughts. What I would do is whenever those thoughts pop into your head, say to yourself, "I got no time for this mess, I choose to think about something that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, then try to list as many things to yourself in your mind as you can that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, it seems silly but I do this just for fun sometimes!

(Questions are briefly answered here in this blog. I am currently creating a product that will answer these questions in great detail with "how to" step-by-step instructions and audio, so check for this in up coming e-mails!)

"bye bye OCD!"

Q.) How can I make it go away?

A.) Here's a visualization you can try that has worked wonders for me. Find somewhere comfortable to relax and think about all the things that stress you.

Visualize all those things and picture that they all file themselves into a file folder all organized. As they organize themselves, the stress tag falls off of them, because they are in order.

The stress tags fall into a machine that says "converter" on it. At the other end, tags come out, these tags say calm on them. Then you see those calm tags float up and attach themselves to the folders.

Now those folders are labeled as calm. So when you access these folders in your mind, when your brain tries to figure out how to react to them, it will see calm written on the tags and act that way.

This is an example of mental exercises and visualizations that you can do to ground yourself and be relaxed and calm.

"Become free now!"

Q.) what are the worse cases of OCD?

A.) The worse cases are when they are mixed with other mental issues or real mental disorders. Me, personally, I feel that the worst case is when you can't live life the way you want to because of your OCD. I treat it as such too. By that I mean that I get on top of it and face and focus and increase my knowledge. Basically I'm lazy for the most part, and I want to work smarter not harder. What I do is learn all that I can from the best minds I can find and then use their information and build on that. They did all the studying and work for me!

"Say goodbye to OCD!"

Q.) how to get over it?

A.) What you can do is to think about what kind of life you want to have. Really take the time to envision it. Envision it without OCD. Take note at how it feels knowing that you don't have OCD! Dwell on these thoughts. Then make this visualization your goal. The process is one/ visualize/ goal/ information/ action/ results. That is the formula roughly that you want to follow. Hint: It works in almost all things, not just OCD!

"Say goodbye to OCD!"

Q.) what can you do yourself to help it?

A.) One of the things that you must do is to determine what your fear is. Once you determine what the fear is that is driving your anxiety which causes your OCD, you can then isolate that fear. Then you can face that fear. Then try to face it UNTIL you succeed. Too many people quit right before they would have succeeded. I have a rule in my life which I got from facing OCD. Here it is; try until. It works like a charm.

"see ya OCD!"

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Question below

Q.) I have had OCD for about 15 Years. Light Switches, Religious rituals, cracks on floor or luck things, etc.... Also, before I had OCD, I had bad Panic Attacks. Then I pretty much got over the bad Panic Atytacks and settled in with \\\"liveable\\\" OCD. However, just about 2 weeks ago (when my Hay Fever began for the season (I always can tell that Ragweed makes my OCD and Anxiety worse) I started getting horrible Panic day and night and my OCD went up about 40%. What is the MOST effective NON MEDICATION means to stop the OCD and Panic?????

A.) What I would do is make sure that I am getting enough nutrients to all the cells in my body and this includes the ones that control my thoughts, this is often overlooked. I'd write short term and long term goals for myself such as, "in two days I want to stop performing this ritual. Then When the anxiety comes, let it wash over you, watch how it can't hurt you. There is absolutely no evidence of a physical abnormality in the body in someone with OCD. It's all in our minds. Know that you brought it into this world, even if subconsciously and you can take it out. It sounds so esoteric but if you understand that you actually have FULL control over both your OCD and anxiety, this will open doors that you didn't even know where there. Really explore this, stop looking for the magic cure, there isn't one. There is work involved and it will pay off if you follow through.

"Good bye forever OCD!"

Q.) how do I get rid of it

A.) Addressing your basic needs such as Spiritual, emotional and physical. They are listed in order of importance. Spiritual you must have faith, emotional, you must resolve and be confident in yourself that you can do what you believe in your mind and physical, you must persevere until your goal is complete.

"No more OCD!"

Q.) I have thoughts that i will kill my mother with a knife. I am also afraid of knives..what do i do

A.) The fact that you fear this says that you would never do it. When this thought comes into your mind say to yourself, "I know who I am, I know I would never do that, this thought is unproductive and I am going to focus on the things that I have to do today." I used to have scary thoughts like this myself and the above trick worked really well for me most cases, go ahead and try it out.

(Questions are briefly answered here in this blog. I am currently creating a product that will answer these questions in great detail with "how to" step-by-step instructions and audio, so check for this in up coming e-mails!)

"See ya, OCD!"

Q.) how did I get here?

A.) By repetition of your OCD thoughts and OCD actions, you have trained yourself to behave like someone with OCD. In my OCD I found that even though it seemed almost instant that I had it, and it basically happens like that for most people. We make it worse by how we react to it. If you react like it's major, it will be major to us, if we react like it's no big deal, our brain sees that and that's how you start to re-train yourself by taking on this new way of thinking. Actually it's not new, just rediscovered so to speak. You have control over the things that you don't think you have control over.

"Get gone OCD!"

Q.) Does OCD have any serious affects?

It can cause stress, which increases adrenaline which is bad for your veins. Take high doses of vitamin C, lysine and proline to combat this. These are all vitamins. Talk to your doctor or health care practitioner to see what's best for you. I would look up Dr. Rath. Who has come out with some amazing breakthroughs that can help with heart disease and cancer, etc.

"Say goodbye to OCD!"

Q.) How do I move through anxiety when it happens and is so strong in the moment?

A.) Realizing that anxiety is just sensations and not an actual physical problem is half the battle. Let the anxiety wash over, watch how it can't hurt you. Notice how it is like watching a really scary movie where the killer is running after the girl but she doesn't really die, it's just special effects. Once you know that the movie playing your head is just a movie and that anxiety is just a movie you wrote and created, you realize that you have control over it.

Question below

Q.) what do i do about it... just stay with it and let it burn itself out? (i.e. like exposure therapy... have obsessional drive but don\\\'t act on it)

A.) There are many different ways to approach it, one of the best ways I've seen is NLP neuro-linguistic programming. Another approach is flooding, CBT, etc. I find that a combination of the above and other ways is the most effective for the majority of people. Pick one and really give it a chance. Don't just try one and quit after two days. The key to success is to act on what you know now while increasing your knowledge. But never wait to act on what you know just because you could know more, because you could always know more. There is no magic cure, you need to truly act on what you mentioned above with exposure therapy, this is a great method.

Question below

Q.) I have a obsession with cleaning, i am never satisfied with it even when i have cleaned it. one of the major problems i have is after a sexual experience, i feel i am never clean enough afterwards. i wash my hands after everything i touch.

A.) After you clean something once, say out loud, "I have cleaned this and I refuse to do it again today, period!" Be firm with yourself and do what you want to do, not what your fears want you to do. If it helps, make a list of other things that you need to get done and you'll help to reinforce the previous statement by seeing that you don't have time to repeat tasks.

Sex is natural and made and designed by God. If you shower afterward, you are clean. Say to yourself, "STOP!" Whenever you have thoughts like this. Don't give this thought the time of day, you know you are clean after you shower and that's it. Be firm with yourself and don't let the bully in your mind pick on you and make you do things you don't want to do. You want to stand up to him/her and say, you're not going to pick on me anymore and simply do what you want to do. Feel the fear and do it anyway, like professional Susan Jeffers says so eloquently!

Q.) how to overcome and face this irretional thoughts, i\\\'m obsessed with?

A.) Half the battle is knowing that these thoughts are irrational. The other half is split into two parts, gaining more knowledge and applying what you learn. I hate it when I see people say that OCD can be cured by just one method or technique, nothing could be farther from the truth! There are many different methods and techniques and some work better for others, there is not a one size fits all, that is why in these answers you will see some similarities and some very different things and in my programs I include a wide range of techniques to cover the spectrum of what I've seen in OCD.

Now my rant is over, here's what I would do. When I have an irrational thought, I simply say, "This thought is unproductive and irrational and I won't give it the time of day." Then I just do something else and focus on my passion, play chess or do something that requires brain power. I even put on my favorite show, house for example.

Question below

Q.) hand washing, afraid that i will contaminated with AIDS Virus by casual contact of people having cut in hands, seeing dry blood at the road, barber shop cut the skin by blades, hospitals stuck by contaminated needles, not touching the doorknob having some red colour spot

A.) The odds of you getting aids in these ways are slim to none, period. What you could try in this case would be to sit in a relaxing space, like your favorite couch or your bed, even your car. Close your eyes and envision yourself having aids. Picture yourself as someone who has it. Know that there are many medications that make it so that it's not a death sentence anymore. This will be hard, but not as hard as you think. Now get to the point where you accept it. Now picture yourself as not having aids. We are going on sort of a mental rollar coaster ride here, but what we are doing is dipping our minds in the fear so to speak. We are exposing you to the fear, and having you face it in your mind.

I say these things because with this type of exposure, you don't want to purposely touch things that are bloody or blood itself. You have made a wise decision in not touching those things. But don't be obsessed with them. You can do this by saying to yourself, "I don't care, I am going to act like people who don't have OCD do when I see blood." this is the "fake it till you make it principle." Because you won't believe the statement at first, but what you are doing is using an embedded command. If you continue to tell yourself that You are going to act normal around blood and not be obsessed with it and then act as though you feel normal about it although you don't, your brain will see this action and start to learn. Once you learn this technique, you will have it at your disposal for life and you can use it to accomplish great things as well, even things that have nothing to do with OCD.

Q.) how can i get relief?

A.) Find your passion. Your passion is something that you can't wake up to do and something that prevents you from getting sleep at night. What I do here, helping people is my passion for example. When you find something you really love, you would rather think about it than OCD and if you are persistent, your getting over OCD will become much easier. See we need to teach ourselves to think like someone who does not have OCD.

Question below

Q.) I can\\\'t stop Cracking my knucles from my fingers, toes back and whole body in general I do it non stop during day and night....Is there a cure? I feel pain if I don\\\'t do it Can you help me find a way to stop cracking my knucles (fingers, toes, back ) I do it non stop!!!!!!!!!

A.) I would recommend seeing a doctor about this condition in which you feel pain in your joints. As far as the OCD is concerned, if it's to the point where you are doing it even in your sleep, I would start out on some medication and then learn the mental exercises that you can do to wean yourself off of OCD behavior. Mention your OCD to your doctor. What we want to do is make this transition as easy as possible and I think that trying to refuse performing rituals before you take care of the pain would be a bad idea.

"No more OCD!"

Q.) Is there a link between OCD and social anxiety?

A.) Yes, sometimes. Sometimes people deal with their social anxiety by performing rituals. These rituals are based on fear and what the person must do is face their fears individually and as they get little successes their confidence will grow exponentially and then it will be easier to get those successes and the things that once seemed impossible to you are now easy.

"Bye bye OCD!"

Q.) Why do I have thoughts about hurting people?

A.) Our brains have a tendency to focus on things that we don't want to think about as a result of how we've been taught to think. What with the media and all and how almost everything on the news and in the newspaper is negative. The world also frowns upon failure so our brain becomes familiar with thinking negatively. Have you ever heard that voice in your head that says, "I'm ugly, I'll probably fail, I could accidentally drop this baby, what if i jumped off this building, what if i stabbed someone with a knife?" These are all disturbing thoughts and how we react to them will determine how they affect us. If you say to yourself, "I am not afraid of that thought, I know that I would never do anything like that and I will now focus on what I love which is...you can fill in the blank with your family, the beach, your job, your passion, God, whatever or whoever you love and whatever or whoever gives you good thoughts."

"Become free from obsessive-compulsive disorder!"

Question below

Q.) My ocd manifests itself in derealization and existential thoughts, why are we here, what happens when we die? etc. How do you shift your thoughts away from this?

A.) Focus on the things that you need to focus on, realizing those thoughts are going to fight for your attention. The thoughts that you place your focus on the most will be the strongest. Every time we focus on a thought, we actually increase the size of the physical connection in our brain. When we focus on something else, that connection actually gets smaller and the thought we focus on is more easily utilized by the brain. Our brain always chooses the path of least resistance. This is a process and it takes repetition for your brain to make the change.

"Become OCD free!"

Q.) Where does it come from?

A.) OCD is caused by placing priorities on the fears you experience. A good way to stop this cycle is to diminish the priority you place on your fears. For ex: If you feel like you might get fired at work, instead of focusing on not being able to pay your bills, not being able to eat or any other problems, focus on what doors this could open with you to the point where you actually realize that it's not the end of the world and that you actually get excited about the prospect of getting fired to the point that you may actually quit. Try this, it's fun!

"Let go of OCD now!"

Q.) How do I know what worries are valid and which are OCD related?

A.) When you perform rituals in response to your thoughts, that's when they are OCD. All worries are valid and you need to address them individually to know what you are afraid of. Then face that fear. Face only one fear at a time as to not overwhelm yourself. As this will diminish your results.

"Get rid of OCD!"

Q.) How to stop letting the nonsense thoughts upset my life?

A.) It depends on how much weight you assign to these thoughts. People with OCD tend to put weight on thoughts that they don't want to think about. But putting weights on what you don't want to think about makes the thought more important to you and you take it more seriously. What I mean by putting weights on it is simply, you assign importance or priority to the thoughts. If you take OCD thoughts seriously, they will be serious to you and have a greater impact on you. If you start to learn how to not take your OCD thoughts seriously and ignore them like someone who is just trying to annoy you, you will be in a much better position.

"See ya OCD!"

Q.) who i deal with ocd thoughts?

A.) We all have thoughts that pop into our minds and we've developed a habit on focusing on them. What we need to wake up and realize is that although we cannot control what pops into our head, we CAN control what we focus on. Practice focusing on the thoughts that you want to think about and dismissing thoughts that you don't like. It's like when Luke skywalker started to become a jedi, the force was weak with him and after he practiced and worked at it, he became a jedi master. I want you to become a jedi master of your mind, where instead of being influenced by your thoughts, you influence your thoughts, some food for thought...

"Goodbye OCD!"

Saturday, August 23, 2008

Q.) Do childhood experiences need to be addressed in order to combat OCD?

A.) In most cases I really don't think so. I mean, for me, I did not have to do that and other people I know that didn't have to do that either. I do feel that maybe it can be helpful if you developed OCD when you were a child, but even then, it's not really necessary.

The reason I say that is because you are not a child anymore, and you don't have to know the origin of the thoughts to be free of them. All you need to learn how to do is to divert your current thoughts and channel them into something exciting and productive.

In one of my programs I talk about how you didn't really know anything about how OCD works to get it and you don't need to know how it works to shut it off. It's like flipping a switch to turn a light on, you don't need to know how electricity works to turn it on and if you flip the switch off, the light will turn off and you still don't know how electricity works.

I am here to help you turn that switch off and then break it so it cannot be turned on again.

"No more OCD!"

Q.) How do I quit ruminating?

A.) Those thoughts on which you dwell upon, you amplify. Although we cannot choose which thoughts pop into our heads, we can choose that which we focus on. Although our minds do have an affinity toward negative thoughts and our brains to think about things we don't want to think about.

How I break free from this is to recognize that it is a pattern, a pattern which can be interrupted. The key is to be aware that you are dwelling on negative thoughts that will not help you be productive or that will not make you feel happy.

Once you have recognized that you are ruminating, or dwelling on these thoughts, then interrupt the pattern by saying something silly to yourself like, "Thank God I am wearing underwear!" This is taken from a well known process called NLP, which I learned from Anthony Robbins, and when you need it, it's just one of the tools that you can put in your tool box to become OCD free!

Making yourself laugh during a time that you have the most anxiety will drastically help you change the way you look at your world. Then I would find a hobby and choose to focus on that.

"Bye bye OCD!"

Question below

Q.) Hello
When a person feels that anywhere he goes somone is lookin at him, example: I feel somone is looking at my from my webcam AND ITS OFF! Is it ocd? Am i the first ocd this kind?
Thanks!

A.) This is paranoia and if you obsess about it and perform rituals to try to prevent your fear then it is OCD. I really don't focus on all the different kinds of OCD because everyone's OCD is completely different because it's created in your mind based on your past experiences and current knowledge and feelings. I would use the technique in which you say your fear out loud to yourself, for ex: I feel like someone is watching me through my web cam even though it is off. Now you know that's not possible, so you can then say to yourself, "This thought is unproductive and I refuse to feed it anymore by focusing on it!" Then focus on something more important.

Q.) How to find peace?

A.) If you are not at peace, it's your body's way of telling you that you are doing something wrong. You could be at the wrong job, be in the wrong relationship, live in the wrong place, taking the wrong major in school, etc. You want to make sure that your inner desires match your outward actions. If you want to be OCD free, you have to behave like if you don't have OCD. The thoughts and the actions have to match.

Question below

Q.) How do you stop the emotional pain associated with obsessive thoughts, for example, of needing to know answers about a significant other\\\'s past or actions, becoming accusatory, hurt or even enraged in your quest for truth and reassurance?

A.) I used to suffer with that and what I did was get myself to the point where I was just too tired to do it anymore! I just kinda said to myself, "You know what, I'm just too lazy to do all that digging, I really just don't care anymore!" Now, I did care, but I said that to myself, and then after awhile, I really didn't care anymore. You have to allow your mind to believe that things are possible. If you can say it out loud, then your brain considers it. You may then come up with a whole bunch of thoughts that reject the idea, but remember that what you believe now is only what you've been told, through the news, people, media, teachers. Don't base your actions on what you are told is possible, rather base your actions on what you want for your life.

"Bye bye OCD!"

Question below

Q.) thanks Derek, it's good to be in contact with a source of wisdom in this respect of area. I have already bought the guide, thanks.

Do you actually have any other written/published information on OCD for ppl to view?

- And i also had a question within the subject:

'What is a truely effective way to evade and dissolve unnecassary thought(s) that come out of no where and seem to entomb you and your energy into a completely innert and extended daydream, until a something 'clicks' ?? Because I find this happening sometimes is extremely irritating and stressful. Just the habit and innertia state I can't seem to shake out of sometimes when thoughts are concerned.

Please provide a tip on this if possible.

A.) I am working on another product now, I don't feel like it's ready yet, There are some awesome new features and sections that are being created right now, so stay tuned for that.

A quick way to dissolve unnecessary thoughts is to say the thought out loud, along with the fear. For example; I am afraid to open the microwave because I feel like I'll get fired from my job if I do it wrong. When you say this out loud to yourself it will sound silly to you and then you can say to yourself, "I choose not to focus on a silly, unproductive thought like this." Then you focus on something that you love. This is where you need to find a passion, it will give you something to focus on and make you happy.

Q.) how can i become brave

A.) The more information you have, the more brave you will be. Here's an example, if you are looking at a dark alley and you don't know what's there, it will be harder to be brave, but if you had someone on the roof looking down into the alley with night vision and they told you that the coast was clear and that there was no threat there, then your courage will shoot up dramatically! Those of us who have become OCD free are like the people on the roof telling you the coast is clear, and if you listen, I am telling you right now, the coast is clear.

"Bye bye OCD!"

Q.) How to get rid of it for good

A.) What you need to do is to train your brain how to ultimately think like someone who does not have OCD. You also need to stop performing rituals so that your brain can see that nothing bad happened to you. The part that people have difficulty with is the anxiety they feel after they refuse to perform a ritual. You need to realize that it just just sensations and that nothing is wrong with you. You are going through a mental withdrawal from chemicals in your brain. Once you learn the skills on how to wean yourself off of the chemical addiction that your brain has to OCD, it's impossible to get OCD again, you'll simply have too much information.

"Become OCD free!"

Question below...

Q.) It\\\'s alot to type out, but basically I would like to know if it is really OCD or some sort of intellectual thing, or a combination. And, I am just at a point that I would like to either have a good use for this mental linguistic stuff that I do so well and automatically, or just completely stop doing it. A good or bad thing, basically. I sort letters in words, phrases, slogans, books, etc, and each letter has a weight that is too heavy to arrange in certain ways to stack them in combinations above other words I am tallying at the same time, and it has to feel right and look right and be completely balanced out befotre I am done. I get bored so easily, and this keeps me busy in those times, and I disect, rearrange, and put back together in difffrerent ways, sometimes needing them to be balanced out a certain way and sometimes just a need for some pizzazz. I use my fingers, teeth, and when alone, even my neck muscles to tap out the letters in their new positionings and arrangements. I also do art and pictures and shapes of 3D objects, even people, with tracings in my mind with my fingers or teeth, and count the pieces and trace over them with letters and put it all back together again or change it completely. I am 31 and this all started when I was about 7. I was Valedictorian in high school and also of my private Christian University. Now I am a stay home mom. Very tightly wound, perfectionist, over achiever, and my brain is constantly demanding to be busy and challenged. I can draw well and have been called artistic, but it frustrates me because I never have enough alone, quiet time to get it perfectly right.

A.) The best thing for you is to say to yourself, "I'm just too tired to do these rituals, I give up, I quit!" It's just too much, so much to the point that you just are too tired to do it. It's too overwhelming. Whenever you go to do one of your rituals, say to yourself, "This is not a productive thought, I choose to think about the things that I need to do." Just refuse to do rituals. Now you have had OCD for a long time so if you find the anxiety to be particularly tough, I would see a doctor and get on a good medication, only they can help you choose the right one. This will make it easier for you to do the legwork that it takes to reprogram the way your mind has been thinking for many years. You also have to be careful that you don't like your OCD because you may be used to it. Just overload yourself with it if you don't feel overwhelmed so that your brain can see a need for you to quit. I remember when it got so overwhelming for me that I just said, "I quit!" "I just can't keep up with my rituals anymore!" This should lay a good foundation for you to start on your road to healing.

"Goodbye OCD!"

Q.) What drugs works best with the least side effects (specifically nausea and weight gain)

A.) It's funny with drugs. Some drugs work better for some and some work better for others. If you decide to take the drug route, I would talk to your doctor so they can help you find out which ones work best for your situation. I think that if you want to get rid of OCD without side effects, the best way is drug free. However, if your OCD is really bad, which can be determined by your doctor, then medicine can help. Ultimately, even with medicine, you'll still have to do the legwork to become OCD free, then you'll have to wean off the medicine, which has it's own side effects.

"No OCD!"

Question below...

Q.) I understand ERP. I am mostly purely obsessional. I also suffer from mild depression. When I start to feel depressive symptoms I dwell on them, feel helpless and try to find "the answer" to make the symptoms go away. Does it sound like I am obsessing about being depressed? And if so. How do I manage this? I know when I have an obsessional thought I try not to chase that thought away, I accept the discomfort of the anxiety and try to live with the uncertainty and accept the risk of never knowing if my obsession will come true. I am confused when I have depression. Am I supposed to treat it as an obsession? Should I use "mass exposure" when I am depressed and tell myself that I should live with the uncertainty of never knowing if my depression will go away. Or should I use mindfullness and tell myself that the depression is not me but my brain malfunctioning and with mindfulness and a shift in attitude, the symptoms will go away. (ie more traditional CBT).

A.) What you want to do is take your focus away from trying to "figure it out." OCD is in our heads, we created it, we can destroy it. Picture our thoughts like two dogs. Let a big mean dog foaming at the mouth represent your OCD thoughts. Let a good doggy represent the thoughts that make you happy. When you focus your thoughts on one of the dogs, you are feeding it. Which dog do you want to feed? You will still think about the mean dog, but let your focus be on the good dog. One of the ways to become OCD free is to learn how to change your focus so that you stop feeding your mean dog and start feeding your good doggy, and when they compete for your focus, the dog that you feed the most is the strongest and will win the fight for your focus.

Q.) My biggest question on OCD is if it can be cured spiritually?

A.)It really can. Faith in the fact that it can be cured is first and foremost the most important prerequisite to becoming OCD free. If you don't think you can get rid of OCD, how can you? Even doctors who are not spiritual have admitted to the fact that their patients who prayed, had a better prognosis and healed faster!

"Say goodbye to OCD!"

Q.) How do you stop yourself from cleaning?

A.) After you clean the things that have to be cleaned once, tell yourself even out loud if you want, "I've done this and I refuse to do it again, period." Then do something else, like exercise or reading, tv, etc. The best way is to write down a to-do list of the things that need to be done for that day and keep yourself busy with those things so you can see that nothing bad will happen if you don't re-clean anything. Your brain has to see that by not performing the ritual, your fear did not happen. When your brain sees that your fear did not happen, it makes a connection and an association and this is part of learning how to reprogram your mind.

"Get OCD out of your life"

Q.) How to get rid of OCD physically by yourself without consulting a doctor?

A.) I'm glad that you asked that question! The sad reality is that most doctors don't really care about you or your OCD. In my experience in going to countless doctors in many different cities, I can assure you they do not. They will quickly write you a script and send you on your way. I have, on occasion, met with doctors who genuinely cared. If you find one, hang onto them! As far as dealing with OCD, the best way to do it is without a doctor in most cases. Medicine makes it easier sometimes but in the end, there's no getting around the legwork, period. You have to earn becoming OCD free, it's not hard to do, but it is tedious at first. If you do not perform rituals, you don't have OCD. When a thought of OCD or a ritual comes up, you need to extinguish that thought and focus on more productive things. I would even say to think to yourself, "This obsession is not productive, I'm going to think about things I love, and things I need to get done!" Be firm with yourself, don't be helpless in your mind, but powerful!

"Kick OCD out the door!"

Q.) How can I get rid of obsessive thoughts?

A.) Your focus should not be so much on trying to "get rid" of your obsessive thoughts, but rather on how to think about the things you love. Don't spend any time thinking about how to solve the OCD problem. It's not real, your mind made it up. We all know that when you try to suppress a thought or try to not think of something, you think about it more. There's an easier way, that is to find your passion. When you get really excited about something, you start to create goals and your mind starts to use more of its resources toward what you love instead of what you hate. This world gives you what you focus on. If you focus on OCD, that is what you'll get. If you focus on your passion, that is what you get.
